PATRICK SMITH WHACKS CAREY... WHY BOTHER?
June 12th 2008 11:13
The Whacker gave Carey a belting today... but why did he bother? Surely there is something more important that the self-righteous journo from The Australian could have focused on? Let's start at the source.
I am making an assumption here but Mike Sheahan must have given Wayne Carey a call, got his views on Buddy Franklin and co., and then turned it into the back page story for today's Herald-Sun.
The article entitled 'Buddy's Great, Brown's Best' which contained quotes throughout from Carey would not have been news one year ago when Carey was on TV and radio most nights of the week. But now that he is in "hiding" in Queensland his views suddenly make the back page. And obviously for Patrick Smith and Kevin Bartlett they were worthy of talk back radio on SEN1116. Indeed, SEN has been using quotes from today's segment with Patrick as its promo for Bartlett's morning radio show.
The quote that The Whacker focused on was this:
'Asked if he had advice for Franklin, Carey, now rebuilding his life in Queensland laughed and said "Lock yourself in a padded room, Buddy, and never go out." His more conventional tip was: "It will get harder from here-on in."
The Whacker used this as the basis to launch an attack on Carey suggesting that instead of telling Buddy to lock himself in a padded room that he should have advised Franklin not to grab a woman's breasts, not to sleep with a team mate's wife, not to do cocaine... and on and on he went.
I am no fan of Carey and am glad he is no longer in the media. But the man has withdrawn from public life to (presumably) fix his life. He gets a call from Sheahan, makes some innocent comments including one in jest about a padded room and all The Whacker's Christmas' come at once!!
Rather than take the comments for what they were, as I have outlined above, Patrick chose to whack away. In your world of self-righteousness and self-importance surely you should pick on someone your own size Mr. Smith...?
