In the wake of the ‘mannequin stunt’, The Age and Sam Newman continue to trade blows. Well, The Age delivers subtle and intelligent jabs whilst Newman continues to clumsily flail away.
Greg Baum in The Saturday Age on May 24th wrote a piece entitled “Savvy Kennett cannot play the innocent”. In it he described the fallout of comments made by Hawthorn President Jeff Kennett that Melbourne FC, more specifically Jim Stynes, should relocate the team to the Gold Coast.
Unfortunately for Kennett these words were uttered at a fundraiser being moderated by The Footy Show’s “own” (hardly something to brag about given he has worked just about everywhere else) Craig Hutchison. Hutchy dutifully reported the words of Kennett on that night’s show. And this of course was Baum’s link to land another blow on behalf of The Age, and I quote:
“The discussion this night (at the fundraiser) was robust and funny, but decent and about football, as The Footy Show itself was until it became the personal fiefdom of a certain decrepit and caulked-up old man.”
Has a truer word been spoken?
The battle rolls-on.
